I believe they use a very odd sort of random number generator to select model numbers.

It appears I have added more confusion about the different Shopsmith 5 in 1 and 7 in 1 tools. The Mark VII from the 1960's and the current Mark 7 are the 7 in 1 tools. Shopsmith was the name given to the first 5 in 1 tool, the Model 10E which came out in 1947. It was made by Magna Engineering Corporation which was formed by the inventor and his partners.

Below is the list of the Shopsmith 5 in 1 and 7 in 1 tools and names. The list does not include the SPT's, Magna line tools, Sawsmith's or others.

Model 10E, introduced in late 1947 with the first 250 tools made shipped to West Coast Montgomery Ward stores on November 15.
Model 10ER, as changes were made the 10E it became the 10ER. Production ended in 1953 in anticipation of the introduction Mark 5.
Mark 5 (Greenie as they are commonly known) was introduced in March 1954.
Mark 2 it was made at the request of Montgomery Ward as a lower cost tool introduced in December of 1957 by Magna Power Tool Corporation.
Mark 5 same tool but the paint was changed to gold and copper (Goldies) in 1960 when Yuba Power Products owned the Shopsmith/Magna tool line.
Mark VII was introduced by Magna American Corporation the owner at the time of the Shopsmith/Magna tools in October 1963.
One by one production of the Shopsmith/Magna tool lines ceased during the later 1960's.
Mark 5 was put back into production in 1973 by Shopsmith Inc.
Mark 5 to Mark V change to the Roman Numeral only in early 1980.
Mark V 510 and 505 introduced in 1985. The Mark V with the original Table System becomes the Mark V 500
Mark I introduced in 1987 and available for only a short time but that's another story.
Mark V 520 introduced in 1999 with the pro Fence System
Mark 7 introduced in 2010 with the Power Pro Headstock and Double Tilt Bench Ends.
Mark 4 introduced in 2021 and available for only a short time
Mark V 520S has the Double Tile Bench Ends of the Mark 7 in 2021.

As it happened in the 1960's it appears the Mark V (520S the last remaining Mark V) has been discontinued in favor of the Mark 7. The Mark V 520S no longer shows up on the online catalog. In the 1960's after the introduction of the Mark VII sales of the Mark 5 dwindled to the point it went out of production about 1964 in favor of the Mark VII. The Mark VII went out of production about 1968. At the same time the remaining tool line, accessories and parts also ceased.
