Do I have to remove the bandsaw on the mark 7

Post by tdorey »

Am I reading it correct that the new mark 7. The bandsaw must be removed before you can go to vertical drill press mode. I could swear my old 520 had the option to leave the bandsaw on. Is it just the tubes offset that used to be different.

Sorry. I just figured this out. The double tilt is designed in a way that disallows the storing of tools. Shame. I liked keeping the extra tool on the machine while in drill press mode. Double tilt is nice too though.

Don't be sorry. We all have had questions that at first perplex us and later have that "moment" when we look at it again and wonder why it wasn't clear in the first place.

If you like the ability to have the Bandsaw left in place when changing to Drill Press position you could change the bench ends to the original type from the Double Tilt ends you now have. Of course you would lose the Double Tilt option.

Thanks Russ. I currently don’t have a shopsmith. I used to have one that I did all the upgrades to except the double tilt.. I got tired of the Fiddling in between tools so I sold it for independent machines.

I now find myself missing a few thing about the shopsmith and am considering buying another old one to upgrade or a new one.

One man's fiddling is another's pleasure.

Absence makes the heart feel fonder.(or whatever)

Me thinks you have realized the advantages of the SS over 'stand alone' tools.

Welcome back to the weirdo's side.

tdorey,

You said,
I now find myself missing a few thing about the shopsmith and am considering buying another old one to upgrade or a new one.
If you decide to go the used route and are not in a hurry look for one that is already "upgraded" to your liking. Buying a used Mark V or 7 that already has the Table System and features you desire will likely be cheaper overall than buying one that needs the upgrade parts you want added to it.

If you decide to go with a new Mark 7 check out one of the Live Online Demonstration & Sales Events as they usually have a discount on the purchase. Four are scheduled between now and the end of May. Just click on the link above the search bar on any of the main pages on this website to sign up.

You're not imagining things about the older Mark V 520. Many users, especially with certain accessory mounting setups or custom offsets, were indeed able to leave the bandsaw attached while going to vertical drill press mode.

Raising to vertical was always(almost - another story) possible prior to the double tilt scene.

Adaptions post the aluminum table introduction were off set mounting 'tubes' and tilting the bs table.
