520 upgrade: lock knob with stud

I just received my 520 upgrade kit. In the instructions there's a list of included parts which says I should have received 8 of these parts. I don't understand 8. There are 4 on the main table. There is 1 on the front of each floating table and 1 on the front of the extension table. On the backs of the floating tables, there are 2 rivnuts on each (one in the middle, one offset to one end. As you're standing on the infeed side, they would be offset to your right). The extension table also has 2 rivnuts, one in the middle and one offset to the other end (the left or inboard side).

Assuming each rivnut gets a stud, that would be 13. If the rears really only need 1 per (in the middle I would presume), that's 10. I received 11.

If the number 8 on the instructions is correct, then wouldn't it make me short by 2 at minimum?

To anyone who bought a 520 or Mk 7 new, how many did you get? And do you have two holes on the backs of the floating/extension tables?

Thanks!

When I got my 520 upgrade, I believe I received 10 total. Four for the main table, 2 for the aux table and 2 each for the 2 floating tables that I have. Have they changed the backs on the floating (extension) tables???

I have A LOT of these tables, all somewhat older. All of my small tables, floating or extension, have one rivnut centered on the front, one centered on the back, and one lock screw per rivnut. Ten (10) per complete set as you said.

I've never seen a 520 in the flesh so I don't have any basis for comparison, but these are the three short back rails I received in the upgrade kit

Strange. I have 4 total extension/floating tables. I bought 2 additional with a sale maybe 4-5 years ago, but did my 520 upgrade sometime before this. All of my floating tables have only one per rail. I wonder what the purpose of having 2 per rail is???

That mystifies me as well. If you're going to put 2, seems like you'd do one at each end. Maybe the outboard end ones are so that you can grab the support tube even if it doesn't reach the center, but again seems like you'd do put them on both ends for the greatest versatility

I'd ask Shopsmith CS but there were other issues with this order and I'm sure they're tired of hearing from me. ;-)

Perhaps the eleventh is used in one of the extra nuts.

Are they 2 of one orientation and one of the other orientation as shown in the pix? If so which end are the extra nuts on when installed? I am thinking that the two are for the floating tables and the one is for the aux table.

Maybe something new is coming?

Yes, and that's how I've installed them. The odd one out is on the aux table, with the extra nut to your left as you stand on the infeed side (i.e. towards the headstock). The twins are installed on the floating tables and their extra nut is toward your right (i.e. away from the headstock).

I installed my 11th stud on the aux table, just for a place to store it as much as anything else. But 11 makes nearly as little sense to me as 8. I would think that a logical quantity of studs would be either 10 or 13....

How many of the little springs that go on the lock knobs did it come with, and how many did the instructions say it came with? 8, 10, 11, or 13 all seem to be in play. Hopefully at least 10.
