So bought a 1955 greene yesterday.
Took apart to repair and repaint
Has what appears to be the original motor. Sn# UMD. Yes that is all stamped for serial number.
Now the strange part. In the motor tray lays gray round thin paper disc and a 2" long screw. The screw threads match a threaded hole in center back of the motor.
Disc is approx size to cover the 2 large opening in the back of motor.. now the question is this somehow meant to be a dust/chip shield?

WoOdbEmE33,
Does the "gray round thin paper disc" look like the one on the end of the motor below?
_ .
I would be interested in seeing the Belt Cover Vent Plate with the "serial number UMD" stamped on it. Very unusual and I haven't seen one like it.

Your pictures if see the start capacitor inside the rear motor cover
On mine ( probably modified somewhere in its 75 year history) there is a relay and a start capacitor OUTSIDE of the motor ( laying loose in the pan)

If you look at Russ's picture, the cap sits in the cradle that I circled in your picture. Notice to that his has a bracket that retains it. IIRC that bracket also holds the relay. The paper cover goes over all that stuff to electrically isolate it from the motor pan in the event things shiftWoOdbEmE33 wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 5:04 pm Was this paper disc supposed to be under the rear cover or on the outside
