May not get 10er pictures posted this week as planned. Currently have a broken arm that is a little disagreeable lately. Waiting on a call today to schedule surgery.

Sorry to hear about the broken arm. That would hinder having "sawdustfun."

Re: Shopsmith Model 10's What When and Where
Hi all, just wondering if there is a historical timeline for the Tie Bar (part 101-3)...revision changes to the part over time? I just put mine back together after moving it from my dad's old shop to my new shop and found that mine is cracked at one of the set screw holes. After googling around a bit, it seems that they beefed up that location at some point, but I've found parts like that that still have the original part number and others that have an 'A' designation on them. I'm assuming any of them will fit (I have the original thick walled way tubes), so will probably acquire one of them with the reinforced set screw holes.
Here's the one I have on SN 11005:

Re: Shopsmith Model 10's What When and Where
I have had one cracked there myself when restoring Model 10E S/N 17731. I replaced it with the later Tie Bar.
It wasn't too long before the extra material was added as shown in the second picture below. The highest serial number I have had for a 10E with the early Tie Bar is 19541. A picture of the early Tie Bar (like yours) is shown in the first picture below. Model 10E S/N 25951 is the lowest one I have had with the newer casting of the Tie Bar shown in the second picture below. The casting changed but the part number did not. The Tie Bar version's part number 101-3 and later C 2267 (although the part itself still said 101-3) are interchangeable. This is a case where a single part can be replaced with a later (or earlier) part individually. Some parts have to be changed as an assembly. I should add, for clarity, that all Model 10ER part numbers changed in November of 1951.

Yes, some of the markings changed on the castings during production.

Re: Shopsmith Model 10's What When and Where
Russ, while searching for a replacement for my broken tie bar, I thought maybe I figured out how the part evolved. All of the 101-3 parts, without the -A- marking, that had the new bump out didn't have the bump out all the way down to the way tube hole, while the ones marked -A- have the bump out all the way down to the way tube hole. But then I looked at your pics and your 2nd pic is a 101-3 (no -A-) with the bump out all the way down to the way tube hole...guess we'll never know the whole evolution of these parts...and of course, I have no idea what machines these parts were on originally. Here's some examples of what I found for sale this week:
