Model 510 quill assembly

Good evening everyone. I am putting the 510 back together and have a larger retaining ring left over. The ring is item number 61 in the 510 parts list section of the owner's manual. The part number is 501624. Does it go in the groove on the outside of the quill housing in front of the rubber bumper ring (item 60)? Thank you in advance.

Yes. There should be an external snap ring in that location and this picture looks right.

Thank you David. I just installed it and quill is back in the headstock.
