The most important point us that you now have a functional 510/520 table and you can get back to making saw dust.
Vottom Line: solution was nothing more than drilling another hole ( a hole that SS should have drilled before thay shipped the first kit )

A puzzle to me is why SS took the path they did.
The 'problem' re early 510s was the fixed location of tapped holes and counter sunk holes which made any 'adjustment' impossible.
The 510 'upgrade' made adjustment possible by creating sloppy holes, rail studs and kep nuts..
Later when the 520 upgrades were created, the center hole(in the rail) was altered to allow a cap flat cap screw to be used by replacing the countersunk hole with a counterbored hole and making it a sloppy fit(9/32 hole for a 1/4" screw).
I wonder why that was not also done to the outer holes as well. i.e. the slop is created for all 6 screws by the rail hole size.
I can see why the counter bore was not used with the 510 upgrade due to the round profile of the rails.
Methinks SS decided to not consider the best design for the early 510 to 520 upgrade and concentrated on the later version which by then had far more units in the field.

What adjustment are you talking about (early 510). The tubular rails were not adjustable. Maybe I am about to learn something that I should have learned decades ago. I don't even see the consequence of not adjusting the rails on a 520 table except that the tubes may fit and move smoothly through the rails table to table.

They should be adjusted so that the tables are all at the correct relative height

That was the problem with 510 rails. They were NOT adjustable. Tapped holes/counter sink screws.
Another 'problem' was connecting tubes clamped horizontal rather than vertical.

Nothing on a 510, but on a 520 they must be. I was understanding when you said "510 upgrade" you were referring to upgrading a 510 to 520 spec. Is this what you meant?

The OP now has a 520 and table alignment is a tad more important. I do mine by laying all of the involved table upside down, insert the table tubes and secure all. I consider that easier and just as effective as using the SS gage.
