Newbie checking in!

Nice looking machine Kahouna! The 10erusers group on Yahoo is your best source for info on the 10ER. As someone noted your machine came with a couple of gems: the power mount adapter and the speed changer. It is interesting that there is a bandsaw fence for the newer style bandsaw table. You might look to see if you also got another aluminum table with four mounting holes on the bottom for the bandsaw. The 10ER with the speed changer makes a better lathe than the Mark V as it will turn slower and has more mass. Have fun with it and be safe!

Hey SDSSmith, I see we are both in SOCAL.

I am going to post some other pictures of stuff. I got a jointer too, but I'm not sure it is for the SS? I have a bunch of pulleys and one belt that looks like I could go without the speed changer (yeah right). I also have some reading material that came in a binder everyone might find interesting too.

Here are some pictures of the jointer. The bolt pattern is one on the front and two on the back. The two are wider than the table for the saw and the pulley is offset. Can a person make mounting brackets that go on the bars and go to a single belt direct to the motor?

Since it is NOT a SS item, you are pretty much on your own here. Although it MAY be possible to figure out a way to 'mount' it on the SS, it may be far easier to consider a separate 'table' and motor. Look around in the stuff you 'inherited' to see how the previous owner may have used it.

He may have never used it since it is in obviously worse condition than the ss pieces.

A little TLC and you'll have a show piece. What sort of shape is the cutter head in? How do the blades mount and lock in?

Welcome kahouna. You'll love this forum. Don't hesitate to ask any questions. These guys here are GREAT. It's like a big family. You will get all the advise you need. I joined a few weeks ago and my cranium is about bursting with new info. I'm working on a '55 Greenie that should be completed in 2 weeks. Waiting for a replacement idler shaft due in Tuesday and my headstock can go back together, fresh paint and all new bearing included. The babies going to PURRRRRR. If I didn't have a day job, it would be done is a few days. (I better not say that too loud.....in this economy, that could become a reality real quick....)

If you like hands on work, you may want to tear your beast down to give it a good thorough inspection and cleaning. It could save you $$$ in the event that it has any issues you should know about. It is really easy to do and I guarantee you that this forum will address any issues you may run into.

Gotta run....gotta grab breakfast. I am painting my headstock today and also putting my caster assembly back together again after cleaning them off in the electrolysis tank a couple weeks ago. They were a messes.....frozen up solid.

Dusty- That sure looks like a match to me. I might just make a table about the height of the motor on the SS and use it. I don't want to take up too much room yet. I need to get familiar with the SS and churn out some dust first.

Mickyd- I'm up north in Esco. My SS came from Carlsbad.

All right everyone, here is the last batch of pictures for a while. These are some of the manuals I have in a three ring binder. If anyone needs me to look at any of them in more detail, don't hesitate to get with me. I have the Shopsmith Shavings: 1-9. Shopsmith adjustments manual. Shopsmith sure cure for stubborn pulleys. Owners manuals for: Shopsmith, bandsaw, jigsaw, accessories, and power-mount adapter kit.

These are in the binder too and looked helpful to a newbie like myself.

Enjoy fellas! Thanks for all the help so far. Now I need to figure out some small projects to get my brain geared towards woodworking again.

WOW You not only got 'lucky', you ALSO got documentation in very good condition(it looks like it is STILL WHITE!). If you get time sometime scans/pdf of those manuals to ssug and here whould help many other folks!:)
