Having visitors to your Shopsmith Museum would be a great opportunity to use the Prospect Kit box. Make up "visitor" cards to fill out about anyone who comes in. Could include Shopsmith tools with their name of course and their date of visit. Even "item donation" with their visit.

Magna’s Multi-Headed Drilling Monster!

Sometime back, I had seen an online listing for a small-scale model of an unusual industrial drilling machine. This was being offered by a Chicago-based business that specializes in small-scale salesman samples - and at an eye-popping price!

While I had no intention of considering their asking price, another example popped up that could be had at something I’d call a more reasonable price. Cool little addition to my collection, and something that has caused me to go off and research this odd item from the early days of Magna Engineering:

Dr. Hans was quite invested in this product - and a similar small-scale sample was featured for a Life Magazine photo shoot during the Mark 5 era:

I’ve attached the patent for the Magna Drill, which is much more fascinating than meets the eye. Long before we had the ability to make compact drill heads, Magna was able to drive a very small headstock with a belt that ran inside the horizontal column back to the motor. It’s quite a brilliant design.
