Something Better Than Repairs Is Coming
Something Better Than Repairs Is Coming
What if servicing your ShopSmith didn’t mean chasing parts, waiting on estimates, or repeat repairs?
We’ve been rethinking how machines should be cared for — and the answer is almost ready.
Stay tuned. Performance is about to be reimagined.

Very interested to see what Shopsmith will be doing in this regard. I seem to recall an interview with the new owner saying they wanted to have actual factory authorized repair locations (I think there's someone who already claims to be authorized but I think it might not really be).

That would be fantastic! Imagine loading up the headstock into the truck and driving to a shop versus the hassle of boxing and mailing, to say nothing of what postage might be these days. Fingers crossed, for sure.algale wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2026 6:55 am Very interested to see what Shopsmith will be doing in this regard. Re: Something Better Than Repairs Is Coming
The announcement came out this morning in an email. It is called The Total Machine Renewal Program.
Ed you may be a bit disappointed. It is still sending your Headstock to Shopsmith for a complete overhaul as opposed to diagnose and repair something specific that is wrong. The Headstock renewals are at a fixed price that includes shipping to and from the factory. The program will include currently available (not discontinued) SPT's and Dust Collectors.

Re: Something Better Than Repairs Is Coming
So if we need a belt, or pulley, we have to have the whole thing overhauled? I spent a lot of money (relatively) for a Mark 7 in 2013, and I have not had good service out of it. I eventually have had to replace every thing except the motor and the quill over the years. Each problem happened at different times. If I had to send it for a total rebuild every time I had problems, I couldn't justify the cost. My other Marks, VII, and 10ER's are absolutely bulletproof. This doesn't seem functional. I am kind of gun shy of the electronics anyway, and I sure wouldn't send an older Mark for a full restore if it didn't need that ...... what am I missing?

In the past sending headstock in for repair/refurbishing was normal and touted.
I do not think the 'new' program is intended to replace diy owner repairs. At least I hope not!
We need to not be too hasty in our reaction to the new management's attempts to make things viable again. Give em time!

Re: Something Better Than Repairs Is Coming
This does not appear to be a replacement for those who want to buy parts to repair their Marks or other tools themselves. Parts are still listed as available under SHOP then PARTS here on the Shopsmith website.
