Kreg Miter gauge on the 510 saw table

Post by tgiro »

Does anyone know if this will work? I know about the Incra setups for SS, but I was looking at the Kreg, which seems like a really decent miter gauge. Does it have the same guide problems that the others have?

Thanks

Hi,

See this is your first post so let me say welcome to the forum!

I don't know about the kreg system but unless they have one that says something to the order of "shopsmith version" or "fits the shopsmith" you will most likely find it doesn't fit.

Maybe the best thing to do is contact Kreg and ask, this way you will know for sure and it will also let them know that a shopsmith owner is interested in their product... if several people do this it may prompt them to do a special edition for shopsmith if the current one doesn't work???

AFAIK, Kreg makes one for the SS. When they first offered their miter gauge, I contacted them about milling on for me. They called SS for the specs and I had the gauge in a week. I've heard since that they now offer a SS version.

Hi tgiro,

Welcome to these forums! Here is a link to the Kreg miter guage site: http://www.kregtool.com/products/pms/product.php?PRODUCT_ID=39
I do knot see where they specify one for SS, but as they do have a relationship with SS, and "brother" pkni says they made a bar to fit his SS, I agree with Ed: Contact them via their "contact us" button on the web site if you want to. Or call 1 800 447 8638.

Thanks for the replies.

I have sent an email to the Kreg folks, but haven't had a return yet. I know Kreg has an SS relationship - I think SS uses a Kreg fence on the newer bandsaw table. If I don't get a reply in another day or two I may give them a call - or - get an Incr Miter-express with the Incra 1000SE gauge on it.

Incra did return my emails and gave me the info on their products that worked with the SS.

Again thanks for the help.

This what I got back from an email inquiry regarding a Kreg miter gauge for Shopsmith. Gene you must have an inside contact.

Sorry ,
Message was cut off

Dear David,

I’m sorry to inform you that we do not have a miter gauge specifically designed for the shopsmith. If your shopsmith model has a miter slot that is ¾" wide it will fit without a problem

The miter guide on my SS is .73 inches - having said that ------

I got the same response from Kreg:

Dear Tony,

I’m sorry to inform you that we do not have a miter gauge specifically designed for the shopsmith. If your shopsmith model has a miter slot that is ¾” wide it will fit without a problem.

Here is the info I got back from Incra:

Hi, Tony-

The 1000SE can't be used directly on the Shopsmith table. The Shopsmith
miter slot is an unusual size, and the reason we don't make a
Shopsmith-sized version is that there isn't safe clearance between the gauge
and blade at all angles on those machines.

The Miter2000 is the only miter gauge we produce for the Shopsmith machines,
but we do have two sleds available in a Shopsmith version:

Miter5000: http://www.incrementaltools.com/INCRA_M ... er5000.htm

Miter Express:
http://www.incrementaltools.com/INCRA_M ... xpress.htm

The Miter 1000 models can, however, be used on the Shopsmith table in
conjunction with the Miter Express, since docking the miter gauge on the
Express moves it a little further from the blade. The Express also allows
you to quickly remove the miter gauge and use in other machines with a
standard slot, such as a separate router table. We also offer a package
deal of the Miter1000SE and Shopsmith Miter Express:

Let me know if I can address any questions or help with an order -
