You, what are you folks saying? Do any of the models have replaceable T-tracks? I got lost in the thread between Dusty and JPG40504.

I originally stated that the 510 and 520 tables had a t-slot track(extruded aluminum insert. #14paul heller wrote:You, what are you folks saying? Do any of the models have replaceable T-tracks? I got lost in the thread between Dusty and JPG40504.

Dusty agreed with me.(I had requested correction if I was inaccurate). #15
Perryobear pointed out that HIS 510 did not have the insert and that the tslots were milled into the table casting. #17
Dusty did not notice the inclusion of 510 and did not realize why perryobear was disagreeing with him. #19
This is a good example how different folks have different SS versions and not being fully aware of the differences. I ASSUMED both 510 and 520 tables had the t-slot. I was not absolutely sure of this and asked to be set straight if in error. Things went south from that point. We did get each other on the same page but probably confused a lot of other folks in the process.

Redesigned Miter Bar
The sample size is small but the results are equally divided been yes we could/would use a redesigned miter bar or no we would not. The division is not down party lines (ie 500 vs 510/520).
These results, though not final, cause me to believe there is no great demand for a specialized miter bar. I feel that I have a need, therefore, I shall continue to pursue a solution to my frustrations (probably in silence).
Thank you for your inputs and your help in setting me straight on the differences between the 500 tables and the others.
I shall now take this information to the shop and play.
I shall continue to watch the results of this poll but will most likely not offer anymore suggestions/inputs.
Now we know what Shopsmith apparently realized all along; Shopsmith users are generally satisfied with the miter track as it exists.

mE THINKS SATISFACTION AND tOLERANCE ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.

"Rustic" is your friend.
If you will switch over to rustic as a style you will save a fortune on special tools.
I am known for telling folks that I consider a hatchet to be a precision tool.
I also have a broad-axe and a broad-hatchet in there as well as a foot-adz. Note: my father used to say they called it a foot-adz because if you used one long enough that you would eventually chop into your foot.
I don't really find a problem with the SS miter gauge but then again I don't spend much time doing what I call "fine woodworking". When I grab a piece of wood I want to just enjoy it.
I'm retired but busier than ever, just not at the same things. I worked at multiple occupations constantly from the time I was 20 years old. I intend to enjoy retirement and intend to squeeze everything I can into my life, not make work. To me fine detail stuff is work and work is a 4 letter word.
I know that a lot of guys find it relaxing and if so that is great, different strokes... Personally I am always ready to move on to life's next great adventure and try something I have not tried yet. I can't be bothered with using a dial indicator for a wood setup, I need to get my motorcycle out and ready to ride. The horses need training. I am chomping at the bit to get my new Wood-mizer sat up and going. I want to.......

No I would not. There was a time that I would have but I have now made my own. I bought some aluminum bar stock and have milled my own. I use these for jigs, cross cut table, tenon jigs, box joint jig, any thing that needs to ride the miter slot. I have some that were made from hardwood strips. I might have purchased miter bars at one time but not now.
