I bought the 9 piece Power Bore set from Rockler a year or more ago and have been very happy with it - excellent drill bits - very clean cutting and the deep flutes really do allow you to reduce, if not eliminate the need to back out. They are about 60 dollars for the set but do occasionally go on sale, deeply discounted. Alec

Drill Bits

Post by dusty »

This thread has caused me to take a look at the various drill bits that I have. In doing so, I was reminded that I have a few that are missing.

Can anyone help me to locate a source for individual bits to replace those that are missing from my sets.

Specifically, I am seeking replacements for New York Twist Bits. I know (or at least believe) these are made in the USA by New York, Inc.

I am missing about 8 pieces to complete the two sets.

One set is a 60 piece set from .040 to .228. They are housed in a HUOT case. I believe the set to be worth about $100 if complete. Information (or a link to same) that would confirm this assumption would also be appreciated.

NEXT UP: My auger set and the auger which needs some rehab.

Dusty,
Look for old stock on eBay and at swap meets. I have found some real gems in the old steel. Enco has a fair set (imported) of fractional/number/letter bits in a steel index box. Having a good sharpening system for your bits is still the most important aspect of owning bits, that is for me.

I have the base model Drill Doctor and it does a fine job sharpening Drill bits. I'm hoping that these folks will come out with a model in the future which will sharpen brad point bits.
