Well, I believe you cut your stuff, vegetables, etc, slide it off the cutting surface into the scoop area, when your done, then pick it up and dumb it into your salad bown or whatever. All I know, is she used used hers a lot, but it was worn out.
The finish is something Rockler rocommended, it was an oil wax mixture that I would stick in the microwave for 90 seconds or so then wipe it on, leave it set for 20 min., then wipe it off. Repeated this four or five times. But, I don't know the name, because I gave her the bottle so that she could recondition the cutting board every month or so.
Dimensions, 12" long, 8" wide, the sides are 1/2" resawn cherry x 1-1/2". The cutting surface, 5x7" by 1" deep. the bottom is 1/2" resawn cherry, 7x12". The handle is cherry, 7" long, turned to 1" diameter. Glue used was tightbond III.
I tapered from back to front 1/4" per foot both sides. After seeing hers again, it probably should have been 1/2" per foot both sides.
Hopefully it holds up.
