Difference in arbors between 500 and 510

What’s the difference in arbors for the 500 and the 510?
I bought a 500 in 1978 and upgraded it to 510 in 1991.
I bought arbor 505511 in 1987 and arbor 555130 in 1991.
I have three arbors that have no markings on them and they seem identical. The
The catalog states that arbor 505511 is only for the 500 and that 555130 is only for the 510. The headstock is the same for all models.
Someone mentioned the guards, as though they might interfere, but the guards move with the arbor and blade so I don’t know where there could be a problem.

I have some that look identical but the wrenches for my 520 won't fit the back side. The nuts are the same though. This could be the reason they are listed machine specific.

I have been under the impression that the distance from the quill end to the center of the blade varies(500 are shorter). Similar to sanding disk arbor. I have thought it was the distance from the quill(fully retracted) to the table slot center(table tight to left) that varies between the 500 and 505/510/520 tables.

The saw guard also comes into play here(?).

I have a few old 500 arbors and tried one on my 510. The 500 arbors are too short to work with the 510 lower blade guard in place.

All of my arbors are the same size and don't interfere with the lower guard. At least one of them is the original from when I bought my 500. Unless, would there have been an instruction with the upgrade to 510 to discard the old arbors?

Yes the distance from the quill end to the blade center does change as you indicated, but I think that the saw guard does come into play as follows]4354[/ATTACH]

I can't expain your part number problem but my 500 saw arbor shaft is about 3/8" shorter than my 510 saw arbor shaft.

As tnerb indicated I found that my regular 500 arbor will not fit in my 510 lower saw guard.

So if all your arbors are the same, and they all fit in your 510 lower guard, and your riving knife aligns properly with the saw blade, my guess is that they are all 510 arbors.

I am always happy to hear if I missed something.

Thanks for posting a picture of both arbors for comparison. Now I can tell that all of my arbors are for the 510. I must have discarded the original 500 arbor when I bought the upgrade.

Oh NO. You discarded parts!!!! Never!

Even if you know that you will never use it again as a Shopsmith part it has another purpose. An arbor for example would make a good paper weight.

Also, you never know when you might acquire that additional Shopsmith Mark V Model 500. You just never know.

I had a hard time admitting that I may have done that. My wife would never believe that I threw something away, especially a Shopsmith part!
But I can't account for some of the unique 500 accessories I bought, either, like the extension table (about 8") for the main table. I have a feeling that after years of moving it to get to something else on a shelf, I finally broke down and discarded it.
