What year was your Greenie born? Read the 1st post before voting

FYI - I looked back on the poll that dusty had postedasking what type of Mark V folks had. There were 21 Greenie's identified in that poll. Since there were only 13 total Greenie identified to date on this poll, I compared users names on the two polls and found that there are 16 Greenie owner in dusty's poll that didn't vote on this poll yet soooooo, I PM'd em all. If they all respond to the PM and cast their vote, we'll be up around 30 Greenie's identified.

S# 342238 checking in. When I last looked at the SS serial # listing I figured it was a late '56 production run before X-mas. So as not to scew the results, it's checked in the poll as a '57 per MickeyD's .pdf.

Was your initial ~Dec1956 a guesstimate or were you going by some info we might not be aware of? Interested in knowing.

Guesstimate based on the 1957 starting serial # of 347643. I figure there had to be a last production run for the year and since the production volume was still pretty healthy at that time, it should fall into the last quarter. However, since there isn't any access to any plant records, it's pure conjecture.

Wonder if the records do still exist? Hmmmmmm........that might be a interesting treasure hunt.

If you notice on the ShopSmith serial number table here (scroll to bottom of page), they indicate SN 347642 as the serial number in July 1957 with no numbers shown Jan - Jun. In this table, they show the 1957 starting serial number as the same one, 347642. This is the odd thing that caught my eye where it is hard to image that there was NO PRODUCTION in the months where they don't report a serial number, thus the reason for the pdf I created.

As has previously been said(posted somewhere) the best guess is that the records were either lost between magna american going out of production and shopsmith inc. startup or were lost during the 'move of all records'.

I don't blame you a bit for wanting to get to the root of it. It's like working on your Greenie's genealogy.

I own a 1955 18' Chris Craft Rocket Runabout boat. I went to the Maritime Museum in Newport News, Virginia who holds all the Chris Craft records. Amazingly, the had the final production documentation folder for my boat, filed by it's serial number. The folder had the actual shop traveler along with in-process and final inspection test records. It showed the production sign offs by the guys who built and tested the boat along with all the lot numbers and serial numbers of materials that went into it. I was able to copy the entire folder and believe me, I cherish it. Why? Only people who appreciate that kind of stuff will ever understand the passion.

Just looked at the serial number pdf in my first post of this thread and estimated that there were about 100,000 Greenie's built from 1954 to 1960.
