Other sources for conical sander sandpaper?

I finally received the backordered discs.

8iowa, I sent you a PM. Thanks again for the loan of your discs. That enabled me to finish a little project I had instead of waiting on SS to fulfill the order. The conical sander is a great once you get it set up properly.

Thanks for the good news. I need to order sanding disks.

What sort of difficulties did you experience getting setup for conical sanding?

I would almost bet it involved 4 degrees!

The 4 degree tilt was not hard to get right - checking with a square betw the sander and the table gets you zeroed in pretty quick.

The problem I was having is how much material gets removed per pass. The 50 grit paper I'm using was taking off too much and it took a while playing with speed and how tight I had the board against the sander before I got comfortable. I went back to the instructions and saw where it spells out the max. amount of removal for each of the grits: 1/8" for 50 grit. 1/16" for 80 grit and 1/32" for 150 grit. Good thing I was practicing with scrap boards before using any good stuff.

I said ALMOST! I have come to the conclusion that aligning to a square is the ONLY way to do it. Setting the table tilt to 4 degrees is inaccurate. After watching Nick's sawdust session I have come to the conclusion that it is NOT 4 degrees(slightly less). Perhaps there are variations from disc to disc.

I don't think you were asking me but I have a comment anyhow. NO, the Wixey does NOT indicate 4 degrees. My Wixey indicates 3 degrees.

THANK YOU! I did/do not care which/whose Wixey spoke/speaks. You have confirmed my own observations(without a wixey). The SS literature(when it was printed) states "precise 4 degrees". An overstatement to be sure!:)
