Hi! Does anyone know if the Freud 8" Dial-a-width Dado set fits the Shopsmith?

I do NOT know, but if it is a 'wobble' blade, 'forget it'. Just MHO!

I also agree, you don't want a wobble dado blade.

It will if you have the correct size dado arbor for it.

I do knot guarantee it, but it should. You need to use the SS dado arbor. Any 5/8" dado blade sets should work with it. You may have to create your own table insert (if you need to raise the dado blade very high), as the SS one may be intended for a 6" dado set.

Ahh Geeze! Am I going to have to AGAIN show the photos of the beautiful dadoes and grooves my wobble makes? The biggest issue with wobble dado blades is similar to the prejudice against Shopsmiths in general and size of band saws. It is kind of a snobbish "nose wrinkler" caused by the printed opinions of magazine reviews that always favor the more expensive products of their advertisers.

As I remember, the answer to the original question is YES! - using the Shopsmith dado arbor. The Freud Dial a dado isn't a wobble.

Yes 8" dado blades fit on the Shopsmith Dado Arbor, you just need to be careful not to hit the insert as you raise the blade.

A 6" blade can't be raised high enough to hit the dado insert but with an 8" blade it is very easy to hit the insert.

Gosh, you just never know what you can learn here. I've been using the Magna dado (it wobbles) for 45+ years and now I find out it isn't any good!

I hate it when that happens.

I also have used a Craftsman "wobble" dado blade on my father's Craftsman RAS for over 30 years, and I've never had problems with it... I just brought it home to try on my Mk5.

OK! So I did NOT check to see if the freud blade was a 'wobble' blade and put wobble blades down. Sorry I 'brought it up'.

Since Tim 'wants to know' I will state that I have also had a Magna dado blade for 45+ years. I have NOT been satisfied with it. I do not like curved bottoms. I do not like curved bottoms that are not symmetrical. For years I have put up with it!

I have since gotten a chipper blade and really really like it over the wobble.

BTW it IS a freud!:o
