Hi, Bill. Congrats on your purchase! I have two ERs that I have restored. I use one as a dedicated drill press and the other in horizontal mode. Although I've only used that one as a saw, I look forward to trying out the other functions!

Another great source of information is the document archive at Old Woodworking Machines (http://www.owwm.com/mfgIndex/detail.aspx?id=338&tab=3). You can find the Owner's Guide there. Also, download the "Shopsmith Adjustments" document. That's a really good guide for getting everything aligned and true.

in terms of posting photos, there is a sticky thread at the top of the Community area:

that has the instructions for putting a picture in your message. it includes the pixel size limits for the pics and helpful hints.

Does the headstock move on the tubes?

The headstock did not move when I first got it, but with minimal work with WD40 and a dead blow hammer plus some emory cloth, I have it totally free. I still need to remove some heavier rust at the very top, but the headstock will travel over it roughly. It shouldn't take too much longer to fix that. That is all I have really done to it so far, except for some cleaning.

Bill, congrats on your purchase. I recently (last summer) did a full restoration on my 10er and love it. Here's a site you might consider.

This site (all about old woodworking machines) has numerous booklets about the 10er, popular mechanics articles, and other "nuggets" of info.

Thanks for the info. That name sounds familiar to me. Do or did you work for that major employer there? I was an assistant in Bartlesville, Tulsa, traffic circle and Sapalpa many years ago.

OK Bill and Don too much is sounding like the same Major Retailer I have been working for for 22 years. I have been in theTulsa area for the last 15, I know a Bill Meyer's that worked in Loss Prevention sometime back but have not seen him in years. I have just picked up my 9th ER and brought it home from KC. Only have 6 working ER's at the house rebuilt and sold some and gave one away, but maybe we need to get together off site.

Bill, yes. I worked at old store # 12 in Claremore back in the Spring of '90.
"retired" from them back in '00 and now work for a supplier of fruit juice (Apple, Cranberry, ect...)
