I have not bought Jacob Anderson's DVD's but I have bought other Shopsmith stuff from him in the past with excellent results.

Heck. we might even be related. I have Virginia Andersons in my family tree about 5 or 6 generations back.

I did not equip with Shopsmiths in spite of the setups but because of them.

You have received good advice but if you are still having the same problem (pops breaker on start up) I would approach it just a bit different.

To determine whether my problem is mechanical (stuck belt or something like that) or electrical......I would start by removing the drive belt.

This allows you to power up the motor with no mechanical load. If the motor runs, you most probably do not have a bad motor or power cord.
