Hi if you happen to have one of the older PTWFE [it's the one that came with my shopsmith in 1976 with a yellow cover] the idea is on page 271. I built one but didn't like it all that well, every once in a while it comes to the surface in the shop but I never use it. Regular sand paper sheets will loose their grit very fast so you have to use a paper with backing... and I could go on but maybe someone will have something good to say about it.

One of these sanders, was in my newer PTWFE also. I made one - wasn't happy with it, kept it for years, but never used it again, until there was some mention of these things on this forum a while back.
So, I tried it out again, this time using the adjustable stop collar for depth adjustments. The thing slapped the wood pretty hard and after a few passes, I found sand had put some pretty deep scratches in my table. All that damage and it didn't do a good job of sanding either.
I Threw it away!

This was also Lesson 10, Exercise 66 in Benjamin Spaulding's "Self Study Course for THE SHOPSMITH MARK V HOME WORKSHOP SYSTEM", circa '84, for which 'course' the text was PTWWFE by Christoforo.
It's remarkable how stuff like this has endured, along with the Mark V, of course.
I made one of the drums, too, and had less than satisfactory results with it as a sander, but it was a good learning turning exercise. Mine didn't work because I used a redwood 4x4.
Most important lesson learned: do not ever turn redwood!
