I've carried a Leatherman Wave for about 3 years and I was was reaching for it on my belt again today I was reminded what a great tool it is. One of those things that makes you wonder how you ever did without it. Hats off to Tim Leatherman for his multi-function pocket tool chest. For those who aren't availing themselves of this handy tool, give one a try and I bet you'll agree! Alec

I have the leatherman super tool which I was given as a gift probably around 1995 or so which would put it at close to 15 years old and agree with you on how well built these tools are and the usefulness of it. I see that this is a retired tool that they no longer manufacture. Wouldn't part with it.

I got earlier this year a Skeletool. Really like it. Light enough to carry in pocket or belt; just versatile enough, even if I did break the blade using it as a pry. Have a couple of Gerbers and a Victorinox. None of them seem to wear out. The Gerbers are really prone to pinching my chubby palms, and the Victorinox comes complete with kitchen sink, therefore too heavy to carry normally. Because of the included ratchet, it now lives in the Jeep box. Keep a little Leatherman Squirt in my sunday-go-to-meeting pants.
Maybe I'm addicted and should get them together for a group shot like Farmer's Hammers.

I usually travel light and carry a Case Muskrat but I have a Leatherman Wave in my work bench and one in both my trucks. I have had other multi tools but the Wave is my favorite.

I was looking at some Leathermans in Lowes the other day, and I couldn't see a marking on the package for country of origin. Any idea?

I lost my '99 Leatherman Micra somewhere lately. For the task at hand (that is, buying tools for the most unrelated of excuses), I went ahead and bought a very simple composite-handle USA Case knife.

And they are made to last forever. I have several and wouldn't part with any of them. Okay that's a lie. My son gave me a newer wave model for Christmas one year. I let my daughter talk me out of the older yet larger model. A male friend tried to talk her out of it. I hear it was an ugly moment. The tool disappeared. While working on her house one day I lamented mine was in VA. She smiled and produced hers watching me like a hawk every minute I held it. For grins I tried to pocket it. No smiles then. The kid takes after Dad. She is as good with tools as I am as well. Jim:):D

But, a little online research will show that some Leatherman tools are actually assembled in the USA using imported parts. Is this the same?

It is as far as I am considered because when I use anyone of my Leatherman tools it "feels like quality", "looks like quality" and most of all "Has lasted like quality". You must also agree that they "cost like quality". Buy a less expensive one and run the risk of it not being "Made in the USA" if you like. For me, I'll pay - if I ever have to buy another.

AFTER THOUGHT: Thanks. I think my holiday shopping list just might have been defined! Well maybe not completely. There might be some some who think the baby (4 mos) is too young for a sharp knife.

Darn.... and I thought I was well-equiped with my Swiss Army Knife! I also carry a Mini-Mag light! Now I gotta get suspenders to hold up my pants to carry all the gear!

Let's see what could I eliminate by going to a Leatherman..
