I just aquired a used (new to me) Shopsmith 6" Belt Sander. I'm trying to find out when it was made. I checked the Shopsmith home page for belt sanders and I really didn't find the exact serial number, but it fell in between some of the serial numbers listed for 1980. The serial number on the sander is 9752. The owners manual that came with it says Shopsmith and Magna and has a date of 1972.
It's not in too bad of a shape. It will need a good cleaning, but there's hardly any rust. the cast iron table has a slightly bent support, but I think I can straighten it out fairly easy.
I'm confused about the age though. Any help will be appreciated.

According to the chart, your sander (serial number 9752) was manufactured in April, 1980, just as you suspected. The owners manual that came with it might knot have really came with it, or it had knot been updated since that date (1972).
