I did a 510 upgrade by buying the parts off eBay. I ended up spending around $350 total. It took about 3 months of bidding to finally win all the parts needed. I wanted a 520 upgrade but could not afford the $1200 it would have cost from SS and you don't see many 520 parts auctioned on eBay. An upgrade from a 500 to a 510 or 520 is well worth the money.

Now that you have a 510, are you still interested in upgrading further. If there really were major shortcomings in the earlier models, I believe those have all been eliminated by the introduction of the 510.

Do you realize that you can now take that final step to a 520 for much less. The 510 to 520 upgrade is only $425.69.

The 520 fence improvement is almost worth that alone!(the box rails ARE needed to use it!)

I may do that because I could sell the 510 parts I don't need on eBay after the upgrade to the 520 from the 510.
