Took a few days off from work and made a trip to northern Ohio.
Photo's below of a few Flea market finds. After searching flea markets and finding nothing I hit the jackpot at this one in Hartville Ohio.
http://www.hartvillemarketplace.com/ Found so much I could not buy it all. Anyone know a make or age of the saw vise?
Also got to visit Hartville Hardware. What a hardware store. They have EVERYTHING!

My grandfather and father had a similar vise in their shops that they used to sharpen hand saws. It appears to be quite old, maybe from the 20s or 30s time.

I inherited one from my father-in-law. The turn knob is plain, not ornate like the one in your photo. Most of his hand tools are from the mid-30s.

Just an update from what I have learned.
The vice is a Wentworth No. 3 Made in the late 1800's
I guess this design is considered a good one. Tools for working wood has copied the sister of this vice the No. 2. and will be offered soon.

Bought, restored and sold a 520 before I knew what I had (and should have kept) - Now I found religion and I'm working on restoring a 500 and a 10E.

What a beautiful store! I wish I had gone there when I lived in Akron for a couple of years.
There is a slab at around 1:40. I have one around that size from a giant redwood that I got from my dad. It's 6.5' in diameter and 3" thick.
