The answer to that is going to be argumentative. There will be someone that likes each chuck more then the other. As a turner with limited experience, I wood consider the one(s) that SS offers, just because they have choosen them. They must feel that those chucks work well with the Mark V. Buying a chuck from SS also helps them stay in business.

Making a general observation, knot directed just at the purchase of a SS offered chuck, I am willing to pay more to SS to help them stay in business AND because of their customer service. I know that some complain about how long they remain on hold with SS, but remember, it is their nickle and once you get them on the phone they will stay with you until your inquiry is complete. I consider that superb CS and expect to pay a little more because of it. And you can still wait for SS sales.

And a really nice chuck it is, too. Ordered it yesterday & got it today. I've played HD's stock games before - usually, just this side of bait & switch. Thanks for the tip.

This thing is nice - heavy, but nice. I should have gotten one of these ten years ago - I wouldn't have had to build so many jigs.

Although - learned a lot from those jigs.

that is a diy set of cole jaws, i made them based on these plans and they work great, total cost was around $15, instead of the $90 for the nova cole jaws

Hi iclark,

After looking over the HD ad, I did not see where it said that you will receive three different jaw sets. All I saw was "one chuck, one jaw kit & adapter". Did I miss something here. Maybe you can point it out for me.

When the ad says "one jaw kit" it usual means one set of jaws, and with the Oneway chucks, that means a #2 kit. The rest of the jaws are normally sold as accessories.

Also, the regular retail prices I quoted are from several popular woodturning catalogs I receive each year (including the Oneway catalog), if you are curious as to where I got my pricing information.

I have a Nova chuck for my Jet midi lathe and the Oneway Talon for my Shopsmith and other lathes. Both are good. My one gripe about the Nova is that they now make all their stuff in China.

thank you for the pricing info sources. I was curious.

I see that SDSSmith has already answered your question about the jaw sets. it wasn't in the pictures, but the 3 jaws were in the text description.

Was in the local HD today and decided to see if they could find out anything about these. The CS person was very helpful and made a phone call. The response was that they expected more to be available in approx. 2 weeks.

My guess is that no more will be available until after 12/01/09(sale end date), if at all.
