Sorry I didn't get here in time to help with the rings but I want to say welcome to the forums anyway.
Of the three shopsmiths I own only one is younger then yours and that by only a few years. You will also find that some people here own machines from the late 40's and early 50's called 10 E's, 10ER's also shopsmith machines but by other manufactures, still the machine of today are decedents of them and the original concept.
BTW just in case Dusty finds a ring to measure for a 500 it is really .380 or at least mine is from 1976.

The only rings I have measure 1.385". I guess that makes them all 510/520 vintage (maybe 505).
