Great idea on the mini. SDSSmith....got some mini tubes I can borrow?

The jointer doesn't belong on the tailstock side??? I thought the side with 2 drive shafts is considered the tailstock side, no??

Don't know if headstock is sand or cast. I'll check once she wakes up from her nap.

If it IS cast, tell us how well you like the access hole(under the medallion).

The 'tailstock' end is the one you mount the tailstock on when you use it as a lathe.

Add to that the 'fact' that the second/lower/higher speed output shaft is primarily for the jointer only(unless you have an air compressor also). Read the red letters around that shaft. IF your greenies are old enough, they will refer to its use for the jointer ONLY.

This will all begin to gel when and if you ever start making sawdust etc.

First let me say congratulations!

Now a few hints, first one is that a lot of the shopsmith tools are gray... so they all sort of look alike... start mixing colors and they stand out. So if the color scheme you have is greenies then by all means stick to. It makes it hard to pick out the "new tools" from what was there before.

Second hint would be if you are planning on gifting the new shopsmith then play up the restoration and ask what color scheme she would like... if it turns out to be pink and white well then it is pink and white (might be interesting).

Third hint would be to add a scroll saw to your mix. That and the lathe are reasonable safe and easy to learn tools and it gets you to say that you "really think she will like the scroll saw" etc etc. Home free on that one then. If she likes the lathe then the addition of a few more lathe tools will come in to play at say Christmas or birthdays...

Of course your descent in to tool collector will also require more covers, like putting new tools in cabinets, tool boxes and the like... yes more covers. Out of sight out of mind.

Those of us with tool addictions and have been able to stay married have a lot of tricks up our sleeves or very tolerant wives.

I also wanted to point out that over on the router topic there was some reluctance to embrace the thoughts that you will need a lot of routers... having 3 shopsmiths should equal about a dozen routers.... They are at least as addictive as shopsmith stuff, well at least to people who use them.

I'm currently tracking two ER's with speed changers........And the ER I have is still in pieces between the basement and garage.............

He 'discovered' a paint problem! Have no fear, It shall be completed! Remember he got the 10 before he completed the Greenie.

ED: He already has two Jig saws(Mark5 and 10 versions). And he IS a stickler for 'authenticity'. He HAS been considering a different color for the 10(see his avatar?).
