Who can suggest the best workbench?

Perhaps Nick?
Rummaging thru some old woodworking stuff, came across this American Woodworker insert from 1988:

Mark V 520, Power-Pro!; Speed Reducer; B/S; Jointer; ShopMate DCS; SS Tenon Master; Rip-Strate; Incra; BCTW; DW734; var. SS sanding systems; Wood River;
I built a bench from Woodsmith magazine which was described as a heavy duty bench. I added two 9" woodworkers vises on the front and the right end.
The vices are quick release types and cost $59.99 each from HF
The end panels of the bench were formed from pieces of 2X6 southern yellow pine cut to size of the prints and fastened together to form an "L". The end panel is MDF and forms the web between a set of two legs. The top is 4 layers of MDF wrapped by 2X3 pieces of SYP. The bench is 88" total length and it ways a ton. I later added a removable router table to one end and increased the total length to about 9.5 ft. When I put a 4 foot level on the top of the bench there is no rocking of the level from end to end, the surface is virtually dead flat so assembling things like a bookcase or a cabinet is no problem.
If I can figure out to resize my photos to the proper size I will post some pix.
Meanwhile the plans are a free download from Woodsmithshop.com. At least I think they are still free.

this workbench at WoodCentral is certainly no JackBench, but it does have some nice features and discussion of some of the background of the bench

Here is an excellent little program you can download for free that will re-size as well as just about anything else you might want to do with your pictures...

It even plays mp3's, videos, etc. I use it all the time.

IF your original pix has a h/w ratio of 3/4 then you may use the custom set to 800 rather then '600'.mickyd wrote:Bill,

Aspect ratio designation is w by h (i.e. 800 pixels by 600 pixels instead of vice versa).JPG40504 wrote:IF your original pix has a h/w ratio of 3/4 then you may use the custom set to 800 rather then '600'.It appears this forum does not like any thing larger than 600x800 or a height greater than 600. Thus selecting '600' is guaranteed to be ok to this forum.
