Table Saw arbor problem

Hi,

Don't know if I have any new ideas but I just took a few pictures. This is the arbor I have for my 520.

This picture show the arbor closed with no blade mounted, this should be about what you would see with any of these arbors.

The arbor with nut off show the area where the blade mounts, the hub has a step that fits the saw blade size.

This photo is the nut, the side facing us is the side that would go against the blade.

The spacer they mention is shown in the next two photos. First as it might appear on the quill, and the second one with it moved out so you can see it better. This spacer has nothing to do with the mounting of the blade or arbor. It is simply a spacer for dealing with lower blade guards.

If it is at all possible I would purchase a guard system for your table saw. I know some people don't use them but they are there to protect you. They also provide some control of the sawdust so that too might be worth it alone. Maybe as soon as you get this blade mounting thing behind you we can help you figure out what guard you might want to go with.

For education purposes this is a card that came with an arbor I purchased in 1989 but is worth looking at for the "washer issue". I hope it is readable...

Anyone one know if ShopSmith also sells just the nut? If so, part number?

I have heard of having a screw loose, but, a missing Nut????(with a left hand thread no less!).

Call 800-543-7586 You might get lucky! Call Early - 3 hours earlier!

P.S. Maybe you could find one at someplace where they sell bolts and nuts!:D

thanks for the pic - I see that something is probably wrong with my arbor -
does anyone know if shopsmith takes returns?

Yes they do, and the sooner you call the better as this could be a problem with just yours or it could be a whole batch of bad ones... so the sooner they know about it the sooner they can determine that. A batch problem might then say they have no stock to replace yours for now, but the sooner they get at the issue the better it will be for all of us. Let's hope it is an isolated one of problem, and you can get a correct one and start making saw dust.

Can you describe the incompatibility issue between the model 500 and model 510/20 arbors? Seems odd there would be.

The distance from the collar on the quill(the surface against which the arbor rests when inserted fully onto the quill) to the center of the blade table slot is greater for the larger tables of models 505/510/520 than for the Mark 5 and Mark V/500. For this reason, the arbors come in two 'lengths'. Adding to the incompatibility is the difference in the lower blade guard(again the difference in the distance from quill to table slot).
