I finished my bachelors there in 1976. I was assigned to SAC Headquarters in Omaha at the time and was bootstrapped.

I'll bet not many know what that means!! Pretty narrow as to the timing and to the military. I would have had to reenlist to qualify and that as they said "ain't gonna happen".

There are quite a few techies as well as military men here, so I would not be surprised if a number of them were familiar with the term.

I'm rooting for the U of A also. I don't make harsh statements about why, I always get proven wrong.

That is one of my schools, however. The other is home for the Cornhuskers.

Wife and I were in Tucson last Sat. Pinnacle Peak was jumping after their win.
After today I don't think we'd be too wrong in asserting statewide supremacy.

You're right, I didn't hook that use of the word to the technical meaning, but i should have. Maybe my thinking was narrow, not the meanings.

I was assigned to the Hq from 1961-1969 as a systems analyst in the Directorate of Operations. Actually 1961-1964 I was stationed at ITT in NJ and then the cp at Westover while we designed, built, tested and integrated the SAC Command Control System into the operating environment.

While I was assigned to SAC, I was a member of the Missile Standardization and Evaluation Team representing the Titan IIB contingency of SACCS. After my three years with MSSET I came back here to Tucson to participate in the Base transition from SAC to TAC. I was reverted back to a previous AFSC and functioned as Communications Maintenance Superintendent until I retired in late 1979.

Dusty, when I read your post about being "bootstrapped", I assumed you were talking about the military "operation bootstrap" that offered an education to enlisted men in exchange for a reenlistment. ( As I recall anyway) Was I correct, or did I miss the whole point of the statement?:o I was offered this program near the end of my tour in Viet Nam. While West Point Prep school and possibly West Point offered a great education, selling that to a 21 year old with a month before going home was a very " tough sell".

Yes, you are correct. The Bootstrap program was also offered to enlisted personnel already on active duty if they were near qualifying for a degree. As I approached graduation, I applied for and was granted an extension that allowed me to complete a dual major in Business and Computer Science.
