More Amana blades

Post by nuhobby »

Well I finally decided to spring for a dedicated Rip Blade from Shopsmith. It has come in and it looks very nice, with laser-cuts and all. It is an Amana blade for sure. The photo didn't come out super-clear, but the blade is Germany-made and originally marked as a 5/8" hole unit, even though it's cut for 1-1/4" for Shopsmith:

It looks nice; may you get many years use out of it! Let us know how you like it after using it a piece.

Brief Try-Out

Post by nuhobby »

I got a chance to run this blade briefly today.

It ripped (no pun) through some Wenge like that "knife through hot butter" that everyone likes to talk about.

Interesting trivia on the laser-cutouts in the blade: At speed the blade whirs very smoothly, sounds just like the Sawdust Sessions! But if you run it "below design speed" (say way down at speed "C") you can actually hear those cutouts 'ticking' as the blade revolves. Just something I noticed incidentally -- obviously I wasn't trying to cut at such a low speed.

Does anyone know, is this ticking possibly a feature designed to let the user know that speed is NOT OPTIMAL?

Sounds too cool to be true. But, I am real pleased with the blade. It's a winner.
