I contacted Hartville and here is the reponse....dkerfoot wrote:Hmmmm... I didn't notice it before, but it looks like they are just available in the 4" size right now. A call or email to them would clarify if they will have the 3" size again soon.
They do have the Spindle Mount Type in 3": http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/11881
Dave,
Thank you for contacting us! We're sorry to say that we recently ran out of
the 3" Swivel Casters w/Brake. We do apologize for any inconvenience!
As you might imagine these are our most popular model. We have run into some pricing issues with our overseas manufacturer and we are working to resolve them as soon as we can. Unfortunately, this means we will likely not have any in again until sometime in March.
In the mean time, we would recommend you consider substituting the 4" Swivel Casters w/Brake (#36992) if they will suit your situation. We are well
stocked with these at the moment.

Anyone have a good source? I would greatly appreciate it.
I don't know anything about these guys, but I got an add in the mail from them, looked them up, saw what looked like low prices on casters, and thought of your inquiry. Here's their link:

$4.99 seems to fit the criteria of "on the cheap."
I hope they have what you need.

Tractor Supply company has a pretty good assortment of casters. I can't comment on their quality except for some small (1.5" dia) casters that I picked up for a non-WW application. They seem to be doing fine.

just be aware they don't seem to have any double-locking (can't turn or spin). This is really important for any cabinet that you will be using with tools/machines.
I have purchased two sets of casters there. One set failed in less than a year. I noticed today the second set now has flat sides. True they are on the bottom side of the wheel, which is okay until I desire moving the cabinet. Why is it cheap stuff always fails me? Hmm as I think about it the red ones at woodcraft are about twice the price and I have never had one wheel fail me. Jim2manband wrote:Tractor Supply company has a pretty good assortment of casters. With casters you usually get what you pay for. Get the best casters you can afford. I've bought casters from
https://secure.wheelandcaster.com/p_cas ... php?duty=3
and bought the Total Lock casters which make a HUGE difference as both the wheel gets locked as well as the swivel. I bought 4 of these for this really heavy workbench I'm still building and when all 4 are locked, it isn't going anywhere.
I just bought a 2nd set for a Sheet Goods Cart I'll be making next.
