African Mahogany panels finished.

Post by mbcabinetmaker »

I finished the panels I have been working on. The sad part is they will be painted white and installed under some windows on the outside of an older home in
Spartanburg. I chose African Mahogany for its resistance to decay.

Beautiful job, Mark! Like you, I feel it's sad to paint them, but once again, the customer is right!

Nice job Mark. It should be a sin :( to put paint over such beautiful wood.

Mahogany panels

Post by rcf »

Such a crime against nature, it's truly criminal to paint over such great featured wood, and such great craftsmanship. I dislike painting any species of wood, unless it's plywood or the like. You did a great job of laying out the panels,
and fitting them together. I'm not sure I'd have the heart to paint them.

Understand the practicality of what he intends to do. He needed rot resistance. The species was chosen for that, not appearance. The customer wants it painted.

He wants to be paid!

This is a business, not a hobby!

Finally, paint remover will probably work in the future. My observation of attempts to 'finish naturally(no PAINT)' exterior doors have problems after mother nature works on them a few years. Pretty when freshly done, later.....
