Larger exploded Diagrams Needed

I was wondering is anyone knows of a link to a larger (clearer image) exploded diagram of the headstock on a mark V other than the one on the shopsmith site. I'm having a hard time seeing some of the details.

I have a 1955 greenie I'm restoring and cant quite makeout some of the breakdown on some of the parts...namely the gilmer belt pulleys.

Does anyone know if I can order just the pulleys or am I stuck ordering the entire assemblys...:o

Call Shopsmith, and ask them.

Do you know that you can enlarge those that are online for viewing on your monitor?

Which pulleys are you needing?

I guess that if you are trying to obtain mechanical design details for the drive sleeve assembly (or anything else) that this level of explosion is inadequate.


But, if you are trying to figure out how many parts there are that you might need to purchase in order to rebuild the assembly....well...maybe this is good enough.

Based on my own experiences while trying to rehab my Crafters Station, I believe we all have what we are going to get right there in that manual.

Welcome to the forum Kevin. The owners manual has much better images than those online. It's still available through ShopSmith I believe.

This thread shows the Gilmer drive in detail.

When you ask if you can order the pulleys, which are you referring to? Gilmer drive assembly has only 1.

So far...it looks like all I need are both upper and lower pulleys...they are both pretty worn.

I haven't torn into the assembly yet so I'm not even sure they will come off as separate units

When you say upper pulley, you don't mean the Gilmer drive pulley do you?

I do not believe the Gilmer Drive Sleeve Assembly or Gilmer Idler Sheave are available from Shopsmith. I have been told they are discontinued now. Shopsmith still sells the Gilmer belts. I have rebuilt and tested many Gilmer clutches.

You may want to convert to the Poly-V Drive setup if your Gilmer pulleys are badly worn. The 3/4 HP motor can still be used with the Poly-V Drive System. Contact me off-forum if you have any Gilmer or Poly-V Drive questions. Thanks.
