Yep, they're pretty much the same. The only difference I can tell between the one that came with my ER and the one that came with my Mk V 500 is that the ER's is shiny and the MK V's is black.

As an alternative, you can get a Shopsmith Safe Driver from oneway (http://oneway.ca/spindle/safe_drivers.htm). No spurs- it drives the wood by pressure between the headstock and tailstock. Iif you get a catch, the wood just stops spinning, so it's safer for us rookies.

I didn't realize that OneWay had all those parts and pieces for lathe's! Very interesting. As a correction, the link is missing a few pieces to work well:
