Who can suggest the best workbench?

Though I would certainly not call it the best bench, I have been very happy with the bench that I built from plans in WOOD magazine. The top of the bench is two pieces of 3/4 MDF, with a perimeter that stands 1/4" proud of the top and allows you to lay in a replacable piece of hardboard for the work surface.

I remembered seeing that before and adding it to my "workbench ideas" file. Looking through that file again I found some other cool things I had forgotten including this "Ultimate Tool Stand." While not a pure "workbench," I don't think I've seen anything else quite as versatile as that.

That is an interesting site, did you explore some of the other parts? That is a nice bench, it is about 1/2 the size of my shop!:eek:

Someone posted pictures a while back about the end vice they made using a pipe clamp. I wanted to add that to my "workbench ideas" file but didn't at the time and now I can't find it.

How easily does it roll around your shop? And, what size are your casters?

I am considering building it with all the additional features in the Wood Magazine article. This includes 50 lbs of sand in the lower shelf area. Do you think your casters would be able to withstand the extra weight?

I also thought of using the "tool mover" featured in past Wood Magazine articles. If you have seen that article, do you thinnk that would work better?
