There are hack repairs and then there is re-engineering. That is an excellent re-engineering job. Can it still hold a file or would that take re-engineer rev B?mark-b wrote:Here is a photo of a "hack repair" I did about 15 years ago. .....Mark

Lathe Adaptor

What do I need to be able to use this as a wood lathe? I have the turning tools (hand tools). I have the tool rest, have the end piece that goes into the work. Have a drill chuck, but nothing to faston into the wood at athat point. I don't want to get desperate and cut the head off of a Lag Bolt, and screw that into the wood and turn it that way....

Am I understanding you correctly that you need the part that goes on the headstock end and you have the center for the tailstock end? Do you have a live center (has a bearing and turns with the work - "C" in the above image) or a dead center (does not turn and requires lubrication to reduce heat from the friction - "B" in the above image)?
For the headstock end, you'll need either the spur center (A), screw center (D), or a faceplate (first image below), or an adjustable jaw chuck (second image below). You use screws to attach a faceplate to the wood. The jaw chuck grips the wood in its jaws. I don't yet know what suits what kind of turning better.

I have an extra spur center. I offered it to another user for the cost of shipping. They never answered the offer, so I'll extend the same offer to you. Pay for shipping and you can have it.

Yes!!!!
I'll do that in a minute. Let me know where to send you money (cash in a christmas card) and I'll get it out to you. Yes I do have a dead center, would like to replace that too. But it will work for awhile. Thanks you Heathicus!!!
Thanks

Another Saw
I made a road trip yesterday to Tebbetts Mo and came home with another Jig Saw, complete assembly. I had taken mine apart last week to get ot freed, (was stiff, full of nuts, like acorns) anyway I got mine back together and realized that the bottom bracket where the set screw is was split open.
My saw is in better shape apperance wise, but the freebee from yesterday's road trip has the piece that I need. So I'm off to play in the garage later this morning. I brought home a 10" Craftsmas band saw from craiglist that I need to get mounted.
Hope everybody had a safe weekend so far.

I forgot
I forgot to mention, that the jig saw that I got with my 10er botton is solid. The freebee from yesterday's road trip, is open on the bottom.......
Gonna try my hand a cleaning some rusted turning blades, and see if I can get them sharpened. That's to heathicus I'm getting a spur center.
Thanks again...
