Someone correct me if they've got first-hand experience, but I've always heard they were not decent-quality machines and would be better "passed-by."

Mark II by the logo on the headstock...
Never seen any positive posts regarding that model. If I were to buy one, I'd probably look to by several as they came up to use as spare parts machines to make one good/complete one. There maybe some interchangable accessories.

I'm with Heath, I would never run one but would have to pick up one cheap enough just to have one. Again always heard they were under powered but still the same one the tubes and extras.
So far only ones close were thinking they there were great machines and asking hundereds for them so pass unless I can find one for $50.00 or so.

I would pay that for it and maybe drive 100 miles to pick it up just to have it since I have a bunch of others but not one like that. Then again I would be collecting it (I'm sure I could find it a job) and not having to depend on it. That makes a big difference.
I still have a loose vision of maybe someday adding one of those and a SS RAS and even a Sawsmith 2000. None of them are a priority however.
I currently want to and have been putting my hobby funds in my old tractor hobby and our pet horses.
When your whole life becomes your hobbies (that means retired) "funds" have a way of getting a little scarce at times.

The 10-ER's on the other hand are a good durable, serviceable machine and can be bought cheaply (much of the time) and will easily serve as your only machine. They will work with much less upkeep than a Mark V.
I bought 3 Mark VIIs and one is original and I like it a lot but it also is not what I would buy as an only machine unless you are good at and equipped for making some of your own parts or at least very good at scrounging.
Some crazy people like Bill Mayo and I and a number of others seldom worry a lot about parts availability or something breaking down and would just as soon be modifying a machine as using it. Most folks though need a machine that they can count on and fix quickly if it does break. Their main goal is to work wood and mess with the machine as little as possible. For them the best choice is still probably the good old main-stream, meat and potatoes Mark V.
