Homemade stand for the Shopsmith Thickness planer

At 65 the thickness planer is getting to heavy to lift and place on the shopsmith. Therefore, I am looking for a roll around, subject plan with an intrinsic power source. Can anyone provide or direct me to such a plan?

I can appreciate the fact that you are interested in building your own Planer Stand for the simple pleasure of building it and/or for saveing yourself a few dollars.

In the past I have done the same type things but have come to realize the Shopsmith has taken the time to develope a stand that it specific for planer mounting and mobility. Safety being one of the best features to consider, I recommend that you buy the Shopsmith power stand. You can rest assured that it's (in my opnion) the safest and most economical way to go.

Sorry I don't have any plans to offer.. Just an opnion..

I have been reading the Shopsmith Accessory Catalog, and comparing the SS Mark V Mount planner stand to the Pro Planner. I would like to hold down the cost and build my own stand, but your advice on safety does take precedence, so I will take another look at the bankbook and mentioned planer stand options..

At about your age (two Years ago) I found a back issue would prevent me from lifting my joiner. It was the first of my Shopsmith tools to have a dedicated stand added. Now the belt sander, band saw and planer all have the Shopsmith motorized stands including wheels. Their stands are well designed for use with their tools. I have a bit of a space issue. My tools all life shoved against the wall in one corner of the shop. When I need them it's an easy matter to roll then into position. I have been pleased with each addition. Besides they allow me to enjoy my shop. Now if I can just learn to keep my fingers where they belong.

I second the suggestion to invest in the Shopsmith Motorized Stands. Jim
