Mistakes in the shop

Measure twice, cut once, but . . .
In trying to build a bathroom sink cabinet, I planned for a full height door on one side and three different-depth drawers on the other. I decided that to maximize drawer volume, I would put the door in front of the sink drain piping. I build the face frame, with dowels, and everything came out great (at least for me the beginner), so it was glued and dadoed to fit the carcass. I was proud as I showed the result of the frame to SWMBO, when she said "the door is always on the left side." At least what I learned from hours on the first go made for much less time spent the second time around.

I hadn't turned a baby rattle in quite awhile so had to make a couple for my daughter who wanted them for shower gifts. The first picture is one with the captive rings cut loose before I had them shaped. Good fire starter now. The second picture is the finished rattle done the right way.

Says who? I've never heard such a thing. From the bathroom cabinets I've seen, the door is always under the sink for just the reason you mentioned. Sometimes that's on the right, sometimes on the left and sometimes in the middle with drawers on each side. Does it really matter? (Other than keeping SWMBO happy?)tryinhard wrote:"the door is always on the left side."
