rehabbing idle shopsmith for use

I have an older Shopsmith that has been sitting idle for several years. What do I need to do to it to get it going again. Is there any lubrication that needs doing or can I just plug it in and start working? Thanks for your help.

That depends on how far you want to go with it. You might want to start by just checking the bearings. Spinning the spindle by hand, does it move smoothly or do the bearings feel dry? If the way tubes are rusted, you can just sand and wax them to get things sliding good again. Inspect the electrical wiring for brittle or loose wires. IF that looks fine, plug it in and turn it on.

EDIT: By "older Shopsmith" I assumed it was a 10ER. If it's a Mark V, then check out this thread: https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=3078

Maybe someone else can chime in on basic lubrication for a Mark V.

I wood recomend that you view all of the Sawdust Sessionsfor pertinent information BEFORE plugging it in.
