Back orders at Shopsmith

SS sending some things by Media mail.
I ordered some DVDs from Shopsmith at the end of Dec. There was a problem with the delivery. They have corrected the issue and were very helpful and are sending a replacement order by priority mail. However they told me that they how send such order out via what is called media mail and delivery can take as long as 45 days. I ordered on line and it gave no information of a 45day delivery. So if you want it in a hurry you may have to call them and work out a different way of delivery.

I understood the customer service lady I talked to say that it could be 45 days. If that is wrong I am sorry for putting out the misinformation. .greitz wrote:The USPS document "A Customer’s Guide to Mailing" lists 2-8 days as the delivery time for Media Mail. Are you sure they didn't say "four to five days" instead of "forty-five days"?

Just wanted to post that my only backorder I had left (ordered 5/20/09) arrived yesterday. It was a shaper/router fence. The hold up was a supplier for 4 of the parts. Obviously they are finding suppliers again. Congrats to ShopSmith.
ShopSmith MarkV-520 with Belt Sander, Jointer, Band Saw, Strip Sander, Scroll Saw and Biscuit Jointer SPTs and a DC-3300...

Allinone tools is run by an ex SS store person who started his own tool store when SS closed out their company stores. He mostly handles other makes of tools now, but still repairs and refurbishes SS's and has an inventory of basic SS parts etc and also has traded in and consignment SS's and SPT's. SS appears to still sell to him but with a miniscule discount that wouldn't even cover shipping, especially with orders dribling in in multiple shipments at his expense. It is now like he is just another retail customer. And when SS puts something on sale he most likely has to pay equal or more than the retail sale price. So he has to add on a markup to cover his expenses and he sells in Canadian $. Currently the CAD is about $0.95 USD(and last year hit $1.10USD briefly), but I don't imagine SS has sent him much in the last year or two, so probably much of his stock is 2 or 3 years old when the Can $ was about $0.75 to $0.80 USD. I would doubt that SS has any territorial agreement with him; that has never been SS's style and even less so since reorganization. So say his shipping cost is 20%, his currency cost has been 20% and he wants a 20% profit, he's looking at adding at least 50% on to SS's USD list price just to barely make it worthwhile to stock anything or handle Cdn orders, thus the seemingly high selling prices on his web page. I would suspect that due to his part association with SS, he carries on being a SS outlet as a labor of love rather than as a profit center for his business.JPG40504 wrote:I am under the impression that ss does NOT sell to them at a wholesale price! Therefore in addition to the exchange rate difference, they must add a markup starting at the ss price.
It may be that ss has agreed to NOT ship direct to Canada as a concession to them.

Back orders
From my experience (Limited) for belts it was 6-8 weeks consequently when
they did finally get them I bought several more just to have backups.
I have since bought backup shives so I can even change from Gilmer to the poly belt in the event one or the other is unavailable.

On a very positive note, my order for 12 service parts and manual placed on Monday, January 25 arrived complete on Tuesday, February 2! I had called in earlier and spoke with Jan, was very concerned when she said several of the items were on backorder. Whatever magic happened, I couldn't be more pleased.

Still waiting on parts
I am still waiting on my order of three parts from 1-20 to be delivered. 2 phone calls and 2 times told it would ship that day. Finally showed shipped on the second, so hope against hope it will come in in the next couple days. I need 1 spring to put my mk V back together and see it run for the first time...I can't wait much longer.
