While I do believe that this would be a very viable storage method for anyone who needs storage space, I now have nearly all of my SPTs sitting in operational locations. I other words, I have converted to a standalone shop.

I know that this is an apparent contradiction but that is how my shop has evolved.

That matches how I planned my shop...
At the moment there are 10 Shopsmiths sitting in my shop. All but one bought used, most at bargain prices. I do tend to set them up a little like stand alone tools. As an example one stays in lathe mode all of the time but I have the tooling and accessories for it to use it in any of the modes. Another I tend to leave the bandsaw mounted on but again the full flexibility is still there in seconds. Another is a sanding station with normal being the belt sander on the left end and a 12" disk sander on the quill mount along with the main table. The list goes on. With the exception of a "mini", I can configure any of them in any setup. I have flexibility that a room full of single purpose stand alone tools could not begin to match. I can setup for 6 different saw cuts and leave them setup for a month and still have full function of the shop. I may cut another one down to a mini and another to a shorty. I don't really need 10 lathes... I call it planning but it all kind of just happened... :)

...I had an uncle that I used to work with some on his apartment buildings. He would time after time carefully measure stuff even like floor covering down to 1/64th of an inch. He would get so intent on getting the 1/64th of an inch right that he would miss the measurement by a full inch. :D-
I think I'm your uncle :D
