Shopsmith Mortiser questions

Post by heathicus »

I went and saw a guy today who gave me a small box of Shopsmith parts. Included was the base mortising attachment, but no chisels, bits, hold down, etc.

Are the chisels and bits standard equipment that I can buy anywhere, or do I need to buy them from Shopsmith?

I see that Shopsmith has the Bit/Chisel sets on sale right now and the price isn't that bad, but I don't think I can get all 3 sizes right away. If I were to just get one size, which would be recommended?

The thing to be aware of is that the shank size of the chisels may vary.(ss = 5/8").
