Lighting at the Band Saw

How do you guys light the work at the band saw?
Floor standing lights are always in the way and magnets won't stick to the wheel cover, for some reason.
Any innovative clamping or adhering devices out there?
Please help these 69 year old trifocaled eyes.

You can become a 'quadrafocal' and utilize this type of florescent lighting w/magnifieron an adjustable arm. Got mine on sale for $25. Works great and you can move it out of the way easily when not needed. I use this light / magnifier all the time on projects that require good localized lighting and/or close-up view.

OK suggestions but in the same vein I also would like more focused lighting. But specifically I'd like a light mounted on say a swing arm attached to the joists above my SS that I can focus on sawing, lathe work and drilling operations. I have not been able to locate a satisfactory solution. Open to a suggestion(s). Hope this is not classified as stealing a thread!?

Mike, I believe your solution and Dwight's question have solved my problem. Thanks to the mobility of the SS and my sloping ceiling joists, That HF light should be just the ticket.

I use the Shopsmith Utility Light mounted on my headstock when I am using my band saw, drill press and also when in lathe mode. I mounted the bracket holder on the headstock and used machine screws and lock-nuts as the screws that came with the bracket worked loose soon after I had installed it. Below are some pictures of my setup and it works fine for my 63 year old eyes. Excuse the sawdust as just had finished a project and had not cleaned up yet.

I use the Shopsmith’s slip-on Utility Light, and really like it. One thing about it is it stays cool to the touch.

I have Shopsmith Utility Lights attached to the tops of two floor lamp posts. They are great and can be placed anywhere. I also have a Utility Light attached to a small piece of wood that can be clamped to a rafter above a tool. Again very portable. Jim

I received this clamp on gooseneck LED light for Christmas and it has proven to be invaluable in the shop. The clamp is LARGE and of sufficient strength to attach to tables, 2x4's etc.



It is called a "Clamp-On Multiflex Battery-Operated Lamp". I don't know where it was purchased.

That said - I have a Shopsmith style utility light permanently attached to my bandsaw and I never use the saw without it. The clamp-on lamp is great for the scroll saw and drill press mode. Alec

After reading this discussion earlier it occurred to me that I could take a 1/8" thick 2" X 14" length of steel left over from a small welding job, drill two holes for self threading screws that come with the shopsmith Light set and in less time than it took to write this I have a bracket that can be clamped to a ceiling joist anyplace I desire it. Thanks for reminding me I had an extra light and all parts necessary to create yet another source of light in my shop. Oh yeah, if making this it is important to bend the fingers on the light bracket ever so slightly so that bracket stays put while hanging upside down. Jim
