I am interested in seeing that too. I have never heard or seen anything but an E, R, or ER in front of a serial number.

10E Serial Number - 1974
Hello, I just picked up my first 10E and the Serial Number is simply "1974". Can you tell me about this? Thanks!
It was most likely made in late 1947 or possibly early 1948.prezucha wrote:Hello, I just picked up my first 10E and the Serial Number is simply "1974". Can you tell me about this? Thanks!

It is my understanding that about 4000 were made in 1947. My 'E' is sn 3779 and I believe it was purchased by the original owner in early 1948(april?)prezucha wrote:Hello, I just picked up my first 10E and the Serial Number is simply "1974". Can you tell me about this? Thanks!
My logo plate has model 10E in the red/silver part and "E 3779" embossed.
Perhaps earlier Es did not have the prefix, since the 'ER's had not been considered...yet.

Photo of Serial Number 1974
Here is a photo of my plate. I read that the R at the beginning of the serial number meant that it was made in San Francisco. A E meant it was made elsewhere, Cleveland maybe... Maybe mine was made in San Francisco prior to the other plant, thus not the need to distinguish... Very interesting! I can't download a photo. I select the photo, click upload, and it stays on 9% forever...

While creating a post, click on the paper clip. If you have not already 'uploaded' an attachment, a window will open that allows you to browse for the file and then 'upload' it. After 'uploading' it, a subsequent click on the paper clip will list the files you have uploaded. Clicking on the file name will attach the file at the location of the cursor.
BTW they must be no larger than 800x600. Resize is necessary prior to 'uploading'.
