Old Shop New Shop

Greetings. Well as some folks are aware for over two years we have been planning to move from Virginia to the Denver area. At last the house is sold and we are trying to purchase a smaller home in Denver area. In 29 days we need to be packed loaded and traveling west. We have made an offer on one home that is beginning to feel like it may become someone else s home. After a week in Denver looking at more homes than I ever imagined possible we will likely move without a home. Our daughter is pleased enough that we are moving she has offered we can live with her until we find a suitable place. The hard part is packing the shop and realizing it could be months until I manage to reassemble it or enjoy creating with wood again. I suspect this saga will become interesting before long. Jim

Shhhh, I am still being a bit quiet on that score. Well actually the power that is has realized that is my plan. The house we made an offer on has a basement room that is 37 feet by 13 feet and another room adjacent to it that is 12 by 14 feet. The combo will make a decent shop and create space for a finishing room. I have faith that either this house or one we find later will offer a shop for me and and a quilting room for the love of my life. Now how can one beat that situation. Truth be known our faith is strong and we have already enjoyed 39 1/2 years of adventure together. Life is great. Jim

Good luck to you on your move, my last move was a disaster, i could write a book. Only problem is it would be alot like the Griswalds, funny now that we can look back.

As far as wood working goes, how about a hobby that does not require all the "larger" tools. ie..shopsmith, power tools. How about wood carving? Lots of great patterns to get your feet wet with. I have no experience with it, but will someday.

You could do what my Grandpa did: Built a shop with his Shopsmith and then built his house using the same equipment! I also know of a retired teacher who moved to Moab, Utah, built his garage first and then built his attached house.
