I purchased the G-3 midi chuck and when I registered the tool I recieve teknatool e-mails on a regular basis. Has anyone out there had any experience with the soft jaws they offer? Also, does anyone know whether or not teknatool has a bowlholder which will work with the midi-chuck the same way the jaws are advertised with the One-Way chucks?

I just saw the soft jaws and I am really intrigued, as far as I know all the Jaws fit all the chucks. I have a Nova and a SuperNova2 Chuck and have a set of Cole Jaws to turn the bottom of a bowl. I did purchase the Shopsmith larger buttons which fit both the Nova and Oneway chucks.
I am not sure I answered your question if not try again.

I have the G3 and I have the soft jaws.... however I have not used the soft jaws yet. If you go to their web site they have a couple of projects one of which is the Auctioneers Gavel where they show the use of them.
I'm not sure what you are asking when you got to the "bowlholder"??? You will have to check the chart to tell you which of the other jaw sets are usable with the G3. From what I understand they all fit but the larger ones are not to be used on the mini style. At this point I have only the orginal set that comes on the chuck and added the softjaws and mini cole set.
I'm just learning this stuff so I always look to the accessory jaw manual or web site for information.

What I meant by "bowlholder" are the jaws that hold the bowl by the top of the bowl rather than at the bottom. I apologize for not using the technical term, but its the best way i can describe it. Chalk it up to being a graduate student of "The Yogi Berra School of Public Speaking"! I'm really interested in purchasing the jaws so I can work on my bowl turning skills this winter.

Hi,
Both the cole and mini cole do that function. The "bowl grip" for the mini cole set provides 6.693" and the cole 9.291".
Since I'm not to sure where I'm going with bowl turning, more of an educational experence then a hobby at this point I just got the cheaper one. From what I understand you can also expand this type jaw with customised wooden jaws (something I have yet to attempt).
The other factor that might effect your selection is the rpm limits. The mini set you should not exceed 800 rpm (std shopsmith) and the cole set should not exceed 600 rpm (shopsmith with speed reducer).

G-3 Followup
I just received an e-mail to the Teknatool. The distributor said the Cole jaws will work with the G-3 midi-chuck. At least now we all know. Now it's time to get involved turning some bowls.
