1979 ShopSmith

Post by ron_s »

Does anyone know what a 1979 ShopSmith Marv V model 500 sold for new in 1979? Also what did the model 500 come with as standard options?

I bought one in 1980 and paid about $1,000 plus shipping. The basic unit as I recall came with a steel saw blade and arbor, sanding disk, drill chuck and key, lathe tailstock, dead center, drive center and toolrest, and the large allen wrench. It also came with an owners manual, the Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone book, and the self-study course. I bought it at a demonstration at a mall, so as an incentive they threw in the casters, five lathe chisels, a five piece bradpoint drill bit set, and a Shopsmith apron.

Thanks I am looking at one made in 1979 and if everything goes accourding to plan I will be brinings it home tomorrow night. Then I will have a 1979 vintage Mark V and a 1952 10ER! No I will not be buying any manuals from ShopSmith for the 1979 machine! I am hoping the curant owner will find the original owners manual. Has anyone here had experiance with there overarm pin router? It looks like something that would have saved me a day at least when I was doing my mortising! Making a futon that has around 135-140 mortise and tenon joints! Glue up will be a joy!
